Investigating the shared genomic and inflammatory pathways linking cardiovascular disease and cancer progression, with the goal of improving cancer survivorship, prevention, and earlier intervention.
I am an Assistant Professor at the Montreal Heart Institute, affiliated with the Université de Montréal. My research program applies molecular and genetic epidemiology to understand the shared inflammatory and biological mechanisms that drive both cancer progression and cardiovascular disease.
By defining these common pathways, I seek to improve cancer survivorship and identify opportunities for earlier intervention in cancer development. Ultimately, this work aims to uncover therapeutic targets and prevention strategies that can reduce the burden of both cancer and cardiovascular disease.
I obtained a MPH at the Université de Montréal studying the genetic variants associated with incident cancer in patients with coronary artery disease using statins. Later on, I earned my PhD at the Montreal Heart Institute/Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Marie-Pierre Dubé and Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif, where my research focused on the shared etiologies of cancer and cardiovascular disease, particularly clonal hematopoiesis. Specifically, I leveraged large population-based cohorts integrating genomic data with clinical cancer registries to study the molecular determinants of cancer outcomes and cardiovascular risk.
I subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School under the mentorship of Dr. Toni Choueiri. During this time, I studied the shared germline genetic architecture of kidney cancer and clonal hematopoiesis through a Department of Defense–funded research program.
My overarching objective is to translate genomic insights into clinically meaningful tools that can inform screening, risk stratification, and preventive cardiology strategies for the growing population of cancer survivors.
Investigating CHIP and mosaic chromosomal alterations as shared risk factors linking cardiovascular disease and cancer, particularly in oncology populations and cancer survivors.
Exploring how inflammatory pathways — including C-reactive protein and cytokine signalling — contribute to both cardiovascular disease and cancer progression at the molecular level.
Leveraging the UK Biobank, Canadian biobanks, and clinical cancer registries to characterize long-term cardiovascular outcomes in cancer survivors at population scale.
